I just watched Rob Stewart do his speech at the royal Ontario museum for #finfreetoronto (It was a livestream on Facebook ) and I thought it was AMAZING!!!Rob talked about how kids everywhere are taking back there future and there was one Grade 6 class in saipan that banned shark finning from there whole country and it was the 2nd place that banned shark finning!

The whole thing was very inspiring! It makes me want to do my blog more often but it also makes me want to start #finfreeEdmonton and bring Rob here to talk to everyone.

I am going to start a petition that will help Rob get more signatures and if I get 1,000 signatures Rob will come to Edmonton and do a presentation about sharks!!!

Watch for my petition I will let you know when it is up and what else I will be doing but I'm tired and have to eat supper.

Also, thank you to all the people in the chat on Facebook and told my mom that they like my blog!!

We can all be a hero and change the world!!

My Birthday Wish.

Hi everyone! What are ya doing today?

My birthday is on Sunday and I'm gonna be 9. My birthday wish is that everybody would just stop bugging the sharks :(

I wish that everybody would stop fishing for shark, stop eating them and just leave them alone.

Please?

Today I read something that made me so sad and that is what I'm gonna write about today.

Look at this it's horrible and it is on teddyhilton.com.

"The world's first detailed count of great white sharks has found surprisingly low numbers.

The count, which focused on great white sharks off Central California, determined that only 219 adults and juveniles exist in waters there.

Since this region is thought to support one of the largest populations of these sharks, the outlook for great whites elsewhere is now also grim.

The Red List, created by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources, currently classifies great white sharks as being "vulnerable."

In the future, the sharks could be classified as "endangered" or "critically endangered" if other counts support Chapple and his team's findings.

All species deserve a chance to survive — even if they're scary looking at times."

I think that's horrible because those are some of the most important sharks! When there's like some really disgisting stuff in the water, the GWS will go up to it - it can be fish, suits of armour, tires or garbage - and just eats it!

They're like a natural cleaning system!

IF the GWS are wiped out then the oceans would be polluted even MORE and that will go into our drinking water and the water supplies then we would be drinking SLOP.

Why do i care so much about sharks?

They're super important. Without sharks, this world would be nothing!! They lived even before the dinosaurs! So if you think about it, they're actually earth's most evolved creatures.

Well, that pretty much covers up everything for today. Good bye untill next weekend!

Remember Sharks aren't scary, they're just different!

Oscar's Valentine blog

Hello my friends! Today I will talk about how likely shark attacks are and believe me they don't happen a lot.Well here is my blog for today.
"The odds of a shark attack are extremely small-only about one in twelve million."

" Every year around the world, about 60 shark attacks are reported.Very few of these attacks are fatal. When I was in grade two, I learned only three sharks are really dangerous,The bull shark,The great white shark and The tiger shark. But other shark species may attack if provoked or mistake people for food. Many shark experts believe that people's fear of sharks is much greater than the danger of sharks."
So don't be scared to go swimming, diving or other activities in the ocean, just check with local experts to see what is safe.
That's it for today's blog we'll see you next time!

Saving sharks one step at a time.

Hello everyone sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sorry I have not been blogging for a couple of months. But I have some new stuff I want to tell you so sit back and relax and read what I have to say.

Today I'm giving some information and three facts about the sharks and other relatives in the shark family.

"All over the world ocean, sharks are under siege. Every year the nets and hooks of commercial fishing fleets haul up to 100 million sharks, and about 70 million more die after their fins are sliced off. Human activities polluting and even destroying coral reefs and mangrove shallows-and with them go the homes of shark pups.

"To make matters worse, many sharks must grow for 10 to 20 years before they can mate and produce more young. This fact is grim news for sharks, because it means that many more die than are born, so the numbers of these great hunters keep dropping. With so many top predators disappearing, the ocean's natural balance is also in danger."

Shark Fact #1
Fins for Soup: The fishing industry makes plenty of money selling shark fins, which are used in Asian countries for a luxury soup. After the fins are sliced off, the shark is usually tossed back into the sea. Unable to swim, it sinks to the ocean floor and drowns.

Shark Fact #2
Lured by Prey
Sharks may wind up in nets while they are prusuing prey such as tuna and mackerel. Even if a netted shark survives, it may be killed aboard ship or have its valuable fins cut off.

Shark Fact #3
Tangled Up
Commercial fishing boats often use strong monofilament nylon nets that may extend for more than 30 miles. Sharks may not see the fatal net until it is too late.

In a few days I will be presenting a shark presentation in the Grade 2 class. I'm really excited because telling somebody else about the sharks is just really great because then they know what's happening with the sharks and maybe they can help.

Remember sharks aren't scary they are just different!
